A Psalm of David My Psalm Your Psalm
Prayer: Father God, Lord Jesus you have given us another day, another season, another reason to give you thanks and honor. No matter what our current circumstance may seem like, I know what you have done for me to have eternal life. Holy Ghost comfort now when I reflect on those in our lives who are no longer with us on this side that we may remember them in the happy moments spent together. Bless those who need a visit from you and let them know that they are never alone. I am thankful for who you are to me and where I am in my life today. And if I am not where I should be in my relationship with you, I ask humbly that you help me to get there as I surrender this day myself to you. I give you thanks, praise, and honor. In Jesus Name. Amen
Many times I’ve heard the 23 rd Psalm spoken, song, and I’ve read it but
most of my life it was a part of a Homegoing ceremony or celebration of family
and friends. It came in my Spirit one Tuesday morning at about 5:20 am. As I lie in
bed, I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got up and begin this teaching. I know you
know how it starts:
The LORD is my shepherd;
Jesus has already told me that I am his, He says in John 10:11 I am the good
shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. He has to lead me from
the time of my eyes of understanding became open, and I the sheep hear his
voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, He says in Jeremiah 1:5 Before I
formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the
womb I sanctified thee.
I shall not want
For He is my provider, He says in Matthew 6:33-34 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. God has given me an inheritance into the Kingdom through His son Jesus Christ. What Good Father would not want to share with His sons and daughters what He has for them for eternity.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
I can think back when he took me from a place we used kerosene lamps to see by, where I had to go draw water from the well or pump the water from the ground. We had to go get wood to heat ourselves, or to heat the water to take our baths. Out to the outhouse during the day or use that old chamber pot during the night. I remember having to walk to town to get groceries when the water from the meats would wet the paper bags and you struggle not to drop the meats on the ground. Then taking us to homes with indoor plumbing, central air, now having not just one but two or three vehicles.
Like the Children of Israel, God leads them into the Promise Land. Not only did He
lead them, He provided provision for their journey as He has for me, tells me He
won’t lead you to green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters
When you are wondering how you going to make it, He supplies your every need which gives you the peace of still waters. I don’t have to worry when friends,
family, and church folks talk about me. When the storms of life come and they
will, like Him, He gives me the authority to speak to the storms of sickness, the
storms of worry, the storms of doubt, the storms of brokenness, the storms of
fear, the storms of temptation, the storms of grief, most of all, the storm of
uncertainty of what eternity waits for me. I can say to the storms, “Peace Be Still
In Jesus Name”.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name’s sake.
After the blessing He bestowed upon me when I strayed away into a life of sin, He reclaimed me. Putting people into my life, using them to lead me back into the path of righteousness for His name’s Sake that I may do the work that he called me to do. So that the works of His Son Jesus would Glorify Father God, and the work that we do can Glorify His Son Jesus who died for my iniquity, my transgressions, my sins. Through Jesus’ death, I am redeemed.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; In my daily walk, death is all around me, anything that keeps us from fellowship and communion with Jesus is death. The enemy is set upon destroying my flesh and my spirit, but I have the Greater One inside me.
And though many weapons (sickness/diseases, pride, greed, selfishness, jealousy,
backbiting, and lying just to name a few) formed against me, they prosper not.
2 Timothy 1:7 states For God has given me not the spirit of fear but of
power and of love and of a sound Mind.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. Psalm 27:1-3
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
He is with me always, as Moses and Aaron which had the rod and staff of the Lord. Jesus sent back the Holy Ghost to comfort me. He’s my protector, He’s my healer, He directs my path, Jesus gave me the power and the authority to use His name. So when I say, Father, I stretch forth my hand to thee, no other help
I know, if thou withdraw thy hand from me, where would I go. I am not my own,
for you have bought me with a price and that price was your Precious Blood.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
When my enemies come against me, You show Yourself strong and Mighty.
Throughout my life, the enemy has come up against me. When I was in the military as I
was injured, my Battalion Cmdr tried to terminate my service and hinder me from
retiring but God Did it, After retirement, working for the Federal Government, I
was taken off a job because the co-worker they partnered me with was an
incompetent individual, so much so that I was to lose my job, but God gave me a
a better job with better pay. When I stayed working in the school system and every
time the situation arises with those who seek to make my job difficult, God Blesses
me with better so that the enemy knows that their efforts have failed.
Thou anointest my head with oil;
He anoints me with protection because of who He is in my life. What the enemy doesn’t know is, it is already written, 1 Chronicles 16:22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. God through Jesus and the Holy
Spirit has given His anointed ones with sanctification, with peace, with knowledge, and powers to heal.
My cup runneth over.
We are more than a cup now, we are the vessel, the temple where the
Holy Ghost resides, He fills us with a fresh anointing daily, out of our belly flows the river of living water. His blessings are so much that He pours out among us that we do not have run to receive them. We are blessed beyond measure that we can be a blessing to others.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
Know ye not that the same God that blessed Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the same
God that blessed the house of Obed-edom; the same God that bless Joshua, David,
and Solomon, the same God that showed mercy to Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, Ruth,
Esther, even the thief upon the cross is the same God that dwells with us yesterday,
today, and forever. Father God told Abram in the Book of Genesis 13:15-16 For all
the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the
dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
When the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus
had appointed them.
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in
heaven and on the earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I
am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:16-20
When this old body takes off corruptible and put on incorruptible, when we take off mortality and put on immortality, when we are called up, Jesus has already gone to prepare a place for those who believed and lived according to that which He has commanded us. A place where there is no more sickness,
worry, hunger or thirst; a place that has many mansions. Our heavenly home,
where we can rule and reign with Jesus forever.
As you celebrate Thanksgiving think about these things. Psalms 106:1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Corinthians 4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
Ephesians 3:20-21 King James Version (KJV)
20 Now unto him, that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or
think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world
without end. Amen.
